About the artwork
Through creating truncated versions of human form using steel mesh as a primary material, David Begbie demonstrates his skilful ability to sculpt the fine details of musculature and achieve an aesthetic completeness of the human form. The effect of using this material is captivating; light both ripples on the surface and passes through it, creating mesmerising visuals that bring the work to life. David’s sculpted bodies are powerful, erotic, tactile, and intimate, as he captures the nuances and curves of the human form in a unique manner that make his works incredibly lifelike, and which have garnered his sculptures comparisons to the masterpieces of Michelangelo and Rodin.
