About the artwork
Far from the common perception of the aesthetic beauty that has always been depicted in Art through History, Cai Lei's subject matter is focusing on hyper realistically depicting the human body with all its flaws, being it aged, being it skin and bones or lifeless, honoring the life that has been passing through the body within all the weight that it brings in with experiences and all the weight that it takes away while passing it through to the next generation. A sacred fragile existence that with every breath of life have loved and loved.
About the artist
Cai Lei was born in 1983 in Jilin Province, China, and from a school affiliated to the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, went on to graduate from the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in 2009. His artworks have been exhibited in the Paul and Lulu Hillard University Art Museum in the US, Moon River Museum in Beijing, the Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Liu Hai Su Museum in Shanghai, the Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, and the Shanghai Art Fair. Often using soft leather to show the mature physical form, his work has won multiple awards and is also collected by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
